General Compute raises $100m Series A for alternative-chip inference

Blackbird Ventures and Abstract Ventures co-led the financing as the company develops AI computing infrastructure.

Series A backing

General Compute has raised $100 million in Series A funding co-led by Blackbird Ventures and Abstract Ventures, TechCrunch reported.

An inference cloud built around different chips

The company buys accelerator hardware and deploys it in colocation data centres. Customers can obtain bare-metal servers or contracted inference capacity, with General Compute managing cooling, energy, networking and software.

Its approach combines GPUs with specialised inference chips from suppliers including Cerebras, SambaNova and Positron. General Compute’s website schedules deployments from the first quarter of 2027.
