R3 Lithium

United States · Climate tech · Industrial tech

A battery-recycling and refining company that turns recovered battery materials into lithium carbonate for battery manufacturers.

Recycling into battery-grade supply

R3 Lithium operates a Covington, Georgia facility that receives lithium-rich battery materials, shreds them into black mass and selectively extracts lithium. Its onsite refining process turns that recovered material into lithium carbonate, avoiding the need to mine new lithium or send the intermediate material abroad for refining.

Battery-cell and energy-storage manufacturers are the intended downstream buyers. R3 says it has executed offtake agreements for battery-grade and technical-grade lithium carbonate. The company acquired the facility in July 2026 after commercial-scale production from 100% recycled material was demonstrated in 2025, and is now commercializing that capacity as a domestic critical-minerals supply source.
