Netherlands · Agritech · Biotech · AI

Crop breeding that turns wild plants into agricultural varieties using genomics and large-scale screening.

Developing crops from wild plants

Aardaia develops crop varieties by combining whole-genome sequencing, computational biology and plant phenotyping. Its breeding approach starts with wild plants and selects traits suited to farming.

Its first crop is aardaker, a protein-rich tuber with nitrogen-fixing characteristics. The company aims to offer farmers a locally grown protein crop that reduces dependence on imported protein and fertilizer. Padraic Flood and Mike Henske founded the Wageningen company in 2025.
