PorMedTec raises approximately ¥1.01bn for transplant development
The financing supports clinical application of genetically modified donor-pig kidneys.
Named backers include Tokushukai Medical Group, Hiroshi Nagashima, Genjiro Miwa and Iichiro Amano.
PorMedTec is preparing Japanese kidney-transplant studies with Hokkaido University Hospital and Shonan Kamakura General Hospital, targeting a 2028 start.
The company is producing donor pigs for those studies, with surgeons practicing retrieval and transplantation. The clinical program is planned rather than an already established human treatment.
