BATTIA
Spain · Climate tech · Industrial tech
BATTIA is developing an integrated process to recycle end-of-life electric-vehicle batteries, using robotic dismantling and selective recovery to return high-purity lithium, nickel, cobalt, manganese and graphite to battery makers.
Battery recycling from pack to recovered material
BATTIA is building a recycling system for end-of-life and damaged electric-vehicle batteries. Its process is designed to handle the full route from safe discharge and robotic pack dismantling through selective mechanical pre-treatment and hydrometallurgical recovery. Computer vision and an inert atmosphere support battery disassembly, while selective separation aims to reduce material mixing before recovery.
Preparing an industrial process
The intended output is high-purity lithium, nickel, cobalt, manganese and graphite that can re-enter battery production. BATTIA is still developing the technology: its site reports a current TRL 4 and work toward TRL 6 in 2027. It plans a 1,000-tonne-per-year pilot plant for 2028–29, so this is a pre-operational industrial process rather than a running commercial recycling plant.
