Atierra develops microalgae bioproduction technology to supply low-carbon feedstock oil for sustainable aviation fuel.
Microalgae as an aviation-fuel feedstock
Atierra is developing a bioproduction platform that uses microalgae to produce low-carbon oil for sustainable aviation fuel. Its work addresses a supply bottleneck: aviation fuel producers need feedstocks that can be produced reliably and at competitive cost.
The company is working to establish and validate its technology, build partnerships across the sustainable-aviation-fuel value chain and prepare for pilot deployment. It is developing a feedstock platform rather than operating a commercial aviation-fuel refinery.
A research spinout moving toward deployment
Atierra emerged from Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology. Led by Shivani Sathish and co-founded with Daniel Yee, the team is combining scientific development with intellectual-property and commercial partnerships needed to move toward larger-scale production.
